Best Cases for iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max
Although Apple releases a new iPhone every year, they all seem to share the same flaw: they break when dropped. Despite numerous attempts, Apple has yet to produce the world’s first indestructible phone. It’s a familiar feeling when your phone slips from your grasp and hits the ground, resulting in a shattered screen. The only solution to prevent your iPhone from breaking after a few falls is to use a phone case.
Finding the right phone case can be a daunting task due to the multitude of options available in the market. To simplify your search, we have compiled a list of the best protective phone cases for the iPhone 13 that suits every budget. Whether you tend to drop your phone frequently or want an additional layer of protection for your iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Mini, or the basic iPhone 13, you will find your preferred option here. However, it is essential to note that when purchasing a case, it should be compatible with your iPhone model, as the new iPhone 14 has different dimensions, and cases cannot be interchanged. Additionally, each version of the iPhone 13 requires its specific case.
From the iPhone 12 onwards, every new iPhone possesses a novel MagSafe attribute that permits you to magnetically link an assortment of MagSafe-compatible add-ons to your phone or a MagSafe-empowered case. Multiple iPhone cases that I’ve appraised and evaluated in this compilation are equipped with MagSafe capability.

David Carnoy from CNET highlights Speck Cases as an excellent choice for iPhone users, with consistently high-quality designs. Many of Speck’s popular case models from iPhone 12 have been brought over to iPhone 13, including the transparent Presidio Perfect-Clear and Perfect-Clear with Grips, and the Presidio2 Pro (shown in pink). Speck also offers a grip case with built-in MagSafe for an additional cost of $5 to $10, which is great because it allows you to attach a MagSafe accessory directly to the case instead of to your phone.
All new models come with robust drop protection that ranges from 13 to 16 feet, depending on the specific model. Additionally, Speck’s Microban antimicrobial defense is present in all products. It is worth noting that Speck frequently offers discounts for first-time purchasers, irrespective of the model selected.
If you’re searching for a less pricey Speck case, you may want to consider the Gemshell translucent cases for iPhone 13 which retail for approximately $24 on Amazon. I personally prefer the ombre variation. Nonetheless, keep in mind that these cases don’t have MagSafe support.

Spigen Ultra Hybrid Mag
Top Affordable MagSafe Case
You can purchase Spigen’s Ultra Hybrid Mag for around $20 if you’re searching for an affordable transparent MagSafe case for your new iPhone 13 series phone. Although MagSafe cases can be quite expensive, this is a good value option. Spigen also offers a Mag version of this case for about $5 less, as well as a variety of other iPhone 13 case options. I also experimented with the Spigen Mag Armor case but determined that the Ultra Hybrid Mag has improved accessory adhesion.
There is no rating provided for the case, however, Spigen’s transparent cases appear to provide adequate protection. If you’re in need of a rugged case with enhanced protection, you may consider the Spigen Tough Armor case, which features a kickstand. However, I personally favor Spigen’s Ultra Hybrid cases more (that comes with an integrated kickstand as well in the Ultra Hybrid S).
It is worth noting that many inexpensive clear cases have a tendency to yellow and deteriorate over time, resulting in reduced translucency. However, they are inexpensive enough that you likely won’t mind purchasing a replacement case for your Apple iPhone if this occurs.
You are receiving price alerts for Spigen Ultra Hybrid Mag, which is priced at $20 on Amazon.

OtterBox Symmetry Series Plus
Best slim OtterBox cases
View on AmazonView on Otterbox
Although OtterBox is well-known for its highly protective Defender series case, the majority of consumers are seeking slimmer and less bulky options. The Symmetry series features a sleek design with beveled edges while still providing adequate protection. Furthermore, the raised bumper also functions as a screen protector.
There are several color options to choose from, such as clear, and personally, I prefer the Symmetry Plus Clear for MagSafe (shown in the red version in the middle). The Symmetry Plus Pop case (displayed on the left) features a PopSockets PopGrip and is compatible with wireless charging, which is a crucial consideration. The Symmetry Series Plus case (in pink) is available in several colors, and there is also a higher-priced MagSafe version. OtterBox provides a discount for initial purchases made on its website.
The Commuter case from OtterBox provides elevated bezel safeguarding, boasts a sleek profile, and features textured back grips. I personally endorse this model, which is also available with MagSafe capabilities.

OtterBox’s Aneu Series cases, now specifically designed for iPhone 13, boast of high quality. These cases feature an exposed ring at the back to emphasize their MagSafe functionality, which the previous iteration covered up. I personally count the Aneu among my preferred phone cases for the iPhone 12. Grab your very own for just $50 at OtterBox.
The Aneu is a premium MagSafe case that has a sleek and robust design. Despite being slim, it is sturdy and provides a slight grip. Additionally, it has raised screen bumpers to protect your phone screen from shattering in case of a fall. I particularly prefer the dark blue (shown in the picture) and red (not shown) color options.
Otterbox charges $50.

Nomad Cases
Nomad brings its collection of luxurious Horween leather cases to the iPhone 13. These swanky cases are crafted to offer a “rugged” patina that evolves over time as the oils from your skin interact with the leather, just like previous Nomad modern leather case models. Available in black, brown, and a lighter natural shade, the new Modern Leather Case is priced at $70 and has a 10-foot (3-meter) drop protection rating along with MagSafe compatibility. Additionally, the Modern Leather Folio is priced at $80.
There is a less expensive Sports edition available for $40, and certain versions are discounted to as little as $18. Although it doesn’t come in leather, it does have MagSafe and a sleek appearance.
Nomad charges $70.
David Carnoy from CNET approves of Moshi iPhone Cases and all of their top cases are now compatible with all iPhone 13 models. One of the most unique cases is the Altra ($45), which comes in three different colors and features a geometric rubber finish that provides excellent grip. Additionally, the case includes a lanyard and the loop that the lanyard clips onto can be removed when not in use. You can purchase the cases on Amazon, where you will receive price alerts.
The Overture (priced at $50) is a multifunctional folio wallet case that also serves as a stand for watching videos. The slim shell case securely holds your iPhone, and it easily attaches to the cover through a magnetic connection. The case features convenient slots to store your credit cards and cash, making it a practical option. Notably, it is one of the premium folio cases on the market and comes in black or pink colors.
I am also fond of the IGlaze case (on the right, priced at $40), which emulates the glass back of an iPhone while simultaneously safeguarding the tangible glass back. It is available in a selection of five different hues. Additionally, there is the IGlaze XT which is not depicted, but costs $30 and is a transparent case.
MagSafe compatibility is not available as a feature on the iGlaze. Instead, Moshi’s SnapTo mounting system is used (a separate car and wall mount are available for purchase). Moshi cases are all eligible for the brand’s 10-year Global Warranty program.
You have set up price alerts for Moshi iPhone Cases and have been notified that it is currently priced at $40 on Amazon.
Casetify is recognized for its attractive designs on the rear side of a transparent case. These cases are slim and stylish, providing satisfactory protection, and are available in various patterns that appeal to teenagers. Though some designs may not be very impressive, the samples at my disposal are pretty decent. It is worth mentioning that the prices seem to have risen as most Casetify cases now have a starting price of approximately $40 to $55. You can purchase them from Casetify’s official website or Amazon.

Griffin Survivor Cases
Tough yet Slimmed Down
$55 at GriffinSee at Amazon
Previously, Griffin’s Survivor cases were comparable to OtterBox’s Defender cases: hard-wearing yet bulky. However, the latest Survivor iPhone 13 cases are more streamlined while still maintaining their toughness. Some models such as the Survivor Endurance for MagSafe (displayed on the left) offer a 14-foot fall protection and raised-edge bezel for both screen and camera cutouts. Additionally, it offers a comfortable grip.
For those seeking enhanced protection, they can opt for the All-Terrain Earth case that provides 20-foot drop protection.
The Endurance for MagSafe is available in three colors at $55. Alternatively, budget-conscious consumers can consider the Survivor Strong, priced at approximately $30 (pictured on the right), or the Survivor Clear, which costs $25. However, neither of these cases is equipped with MagSafe.

Caseology Cases
Under $15 iPhone Case Recommendation
You can purchase these Caseology cases for a modest price even though they don’t have MagSafe. The NanoPop (the green case in the middle) impresses me, as it has a similar appearance and texture as an Apple Silicone case, but at a much more affordable price. Depending on the color, it ranges in price from $15-$17. Keep in mind, you’re receiving price alerts for Caseology Cases.
The Parallax phone case is located on the left side, while the Skyfall case features a transparent back. It’s worth noting that the Vault case, which is the most affordable option among the three, is not included in the picture.

Element Black Ops X4
One rugged iPhone case
$231 on Amazon. You will receive price alerts for Element Black Ops X4.
Element’s Black Ops cases for iPhone 13 models may be pricey, but they are without a doubt distinctive. The Black Ops X4 can be used on the iPhone 13, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max. It includes a pull-out stand and a detachable “magazine” for holding credit cards and cash. When the magazine is removed, the back of your phone is exposed, enabling you to charge your iPhone wirelessly using an Apple MagSafe Charger or a small magnetic wireless charging puck.
Similar to the prior Element Black Ops cases, this version showcases meticulous CNC machining and MIL-SPEC armored shielding. For those who may find the Element case cost-prohibitive, there’s also the more reasonably-priced Special Ops case ($50), a durable polycarbonate case with MagSafe compatibility that provides dependable safeguarding against falls.

Pelican Protector
Sleek and Sturdy
View on Amazon
Previously, I was not fond of Pelican cases as they were overly protective yet bulky and unattractive. However, in recent years (beginning with the iPhone 11), the company (now owned by Case-Mate) has introduced slimmer models such as the Protector, which now includes MagSafe compatibility.

Raptic Cases
Premium Cases at a Slightly Lower Price
You can receive price alerts for Raptic Cases at $30 on Amazon.
Raptic offers various styles of iPhone cases that are slightly less expensive than comparable high-end cases from Speck and OtterBox. My top pick is the Raptic Air (left) which costs $30. The Raptic Shield (middle), which is slightly thicker, is also $30. However, the Terrain costs a bit more at $40 but it’s the only one of the three that’s completely manufactured in America and considered biodegradable.

Gear4 Cases
A slim, stylish, and protective case for your iPhone.
You can find these cases for only $7 on Amazon. You will also receive price alerts for Gear4 Cases.
Gear4, a British case manufacturer now owned by Zagg, produces cases that are just as good as OtterBox and Speck. Their cases are lined with D3O shock-absorbing material, and their edges are beveled to safeguard your phone. I have tried out the new Brooklyn Snap (on the left) and the Santa Cruz Snap (on the right), which are both equipped with MagSafe and rated for a 13-foot drop protection. However, you can find several other case styles with attractive designs.

Rokform is known for their durable iPhone cases that come with the added benefit of being mountable on various surfaces, such as bike and motorcycle mounts, which are sold separately. While the Crystal series is my personal favorite, the Rugged case certainly lives up to its name. Additionally, the new iPhone 13 cases are MagSafe compatible, resulting in a $10 price increase compared to the iPhone 12 models. Check out Rokform’s best mounting case on Amazon for $60.
Rokform offers iPhone 13 cases that feature removable magnets and can be used with wireless charging if you take out the center magnet provided. According to Rokform, you can still charge wirelessly and use magnetic mounting with their mounts if you keep the lower magnet intact.

David Carnoy from CNET recommends Coach Cases as a brand that offers affordable luxury. You can check them out on Incipio’s website. Even though they are not inexpensive, they are not excessively pricey either and their quality meets the expected standards.
The Leather Folio wallet case exhibits a fairly luxurious appearance and texture, and it is also available in a version featuring Coach’s “signature canvas” in the center. The Slim Wrap leather case similarly boasts a stylish look and robust build. Additionally, standard polypropylene Coach iPhone 13 cases are also obtainable.
Incipio is worth checking out.
David Carnoy from CNET considers Totallee Cases to be the best super-thin case available. While it may not provide robust protection, those who prefer minimal coverage or dislike bulky iPhone 13 cases will appreciate its close-to-paper-thin design. Currently priced at $39 on both Walmart and Amazon, you’ve signed up for price alerts on Totallee Cases.
Totallee claims that although its case is thin, it is eco-friendly since it is compostable, and has a raised edge around the camera to protect the lens. Despite the $39 price tag, this feature justifies the cost.
Totallee produces a slim and translucent TPU case (as seen on the left) that provides relatively more protection at an equivalent cost. Although it is slightly thicker, I personally prefer it.

KerfCase Plywood Case
Best wood case
The KerfCase Plywood iPhone 13 case is the top pick for wooden smartphone cases. Handmade and durable, it boasts 6-foot drop protection and a limited lifetime repair warranty, all for a reasonable starting price of $50. In my experience, it surpasses other wooden cases on the market. Another great feature is that the case is MagSafe-equipped, allowing for Apple’s MagSafe charger to attach to the back. KerfCase also offers a matching charging dock and magnetic wireless charging stand.
KerfCase costs $50.
Bitplay’s Wander Case is a great option for those in search of a phone case that comes with a cord and can be worn around the neck or as a crossbody strap. This case is available on Amazon for $42 and offers excellent drop protection. Additionally, the strap is easy to take on and off, thanks to the velcro at the end, and it stays securely attached to the case. The Wander Case comes in clear or smoke color options and has other accessories available from Bitplay.
You have set up price alerts for Bitplay Wander Case and it is currently available for $42 on Amazon.
David Carnoy from CNET recommends the LifeProof See MagSafe case as an excellent option for MagSafe users. As someone who has tested many case samples, he notes the influence of OtterBox’s ownership on LifeProof’s design, resulting in a case with clean lines and a sleek appearance. The See MagSafe case can be found on Amazon.
The case is offered in a translucent variant lacking MagSafe and costing $10 less. However, choosing this case is recommended if MagSafe is a feature that piques your interest. It is obtainable in various colors (although the one featured is named “purple/pink,” it appears closer to burgundy) and is built to endure falls of up to 6.6 feet.
The Next, Fre, and Wake cases from LifeProof are also available for the iPhone 13, in addition to the eco-friendly Wake. Although they offer MagSafe compatibility (excluding the Wake), the See case is likely the most suitable for everyday use. While all of them provide 6.6-foot drop protection, the Fre and Next models, which are the flagship products, have superior dust and water resistance compared to the See.
In recent years, LifeProof and several other case manufacturers have taken steps towards being more environmentally friendly. The Wave case is crafted from 85% recycled plastic sourced from the ocean, while LifeProof’s other cases are crafted from 45-50% recycled plastic.

Cyrill Cases
Solid iPhone cases for less than $20 (Update: low stock)
You can get Cyrill cases for $17 on Amazon. Cyrill is a brand affiliated with Spigen, and its cases are usually more stylish than Spigen’s. However, they cost a little more. We recommend the Leather Brick case, which you can see in the photo above in cream (it’s made of faux “vegan” leather). The Silicone case, which costs $17 and comes in teal, and the transparent $17 Cecile cases are also good choices. The Silicone case is basically a replica of Apple’s Silicone case, but it isn’t compatible with MagSafe. You will receive price alerts for Cyrill Cases.

On the back of the wallet, there is a rotating finger ring holder designed to help prevent dropping your phone, which also functions as a kickstand when you’re ready to binge watch your favorite shows.
What sets this case apart for me is the finger ring holder located on the back. I find the finger ring to be incredibly useful, especially when taking a Zoom call or showing a video to others. While the case can be bulky, it serves as a viable replacement for a wallet if you’d prefer not to carry one around, so the Folosu case is a solid option.

Here are some frequently asked questions about the best iPhone 13 cases.
Is it necessary to use an iPhone case?
In short, it is not necessary to use a case for your iPhone and there are people who prefer to keep it without one. However, it is a risky choice as a single drop on an unfavorable surface, such as pavement, could result in a cracked screen, back, or dented corner. You do have the option to purchase insurance for your phone at a fairly high cost, which would enable you to get it repaired or replaced at a lower cost in case of damage.
In my opinion, purchasing a reliable case is sufficient as I do not opt for insurance. Even though a phone case cannot prevent misplacement, it considerably diminishes the chance of harm. How sturdy should the case be for maximum protection?
Personally, I prefer phone cases that provide sufficient drop protection without being excessively bulky. I also prefer cases that feature a raised edge to protect the screen, commonly known as a “screen bumper”, as well as raised corners that reduce the risk of cracks if the phone falls face down. For maximum screen protection, a folio case would be ideal.
The positive aspect is that you don’t need to purchase an extremely protective case for your iPhone 13, such as the OtterBox Defender, in order to receive effective protection. The majority of cases are reasonably thin and still provide at least 6-foot drop protection. I have included one extremely thin case on this list for those who favor minimal protection. However, before selecting a case like that, keep in mind the cost of your phone – though it is preferable to not having a case. It is important to obtain a reliable tempered glass screen protector for your iPhone 13 in order to prevent deep scratches and safeguard the screen.
What is the most secure phone case?
Numerous phone cases are highly resilient and boast drop protection ratings of up to 10 or even 14 feet. If I had to choose the most rugged case, I would go for the fully waterproof Lifeproof Fre, which includes a plastic layer to guard your screen. This case ranks among the topmost, and is available in both MagSafe and non-MagSafe variants.
The Otterbox Defender Pro Series case is highly protective and includes a belt holster for additional security to safeguard your screen when not in use. This case has been widely preferred by construction workers for its durability and practical features.
Is it recommended to purchase a MagSafe case?
All iPhone 13 models come with Apple’s MagSafe function that enables quicker wireless charging when used with compatible chargers. Additionally, it has the ability to support add-on accessories such as Magsafe wallets, mini wallets, and different mounts that securely attach to the back of your phone magnetically. To achieve maximum power output of up to 15 watts, the iPhone 13, similar to the iPhone 12, features an assortment of magnets (confirmed by Apple to be recycled) surrounding a charging coil.
Nevertheless, in case you wish to utilize MagSafe accessories while keeping your phone in its case, you must possess a phone case that has MagSafe capabilities. The MagSafe symbol is represented by a circle that includes a small protrusion beneath it. It is visible on see-through cases, although it is integrated into the interior of the case. Therefore, if your case is not transparent, you will only be able to view it from the inside.
If you already own or plan on purchasing MagSafe accessories in the future, it’s recommended that you opt for a MagSafe compatible case. This would be a wise choice. Keeping this in mind, most of the cases listed in this review are designed to be MagSafe compatible.
Are MagSafe cases pricier?
Generally speaking, yes, they are about $10 more expensive. There are some MagSafe cases that are more affordable and are priced at around $20, but for the most part, they cost upwards of $30. We have observed some cases from specific companies that are virtually identical except for the MagSafe feature. The MagSafe version typically sells for $10 more. While it may appear to be a bit too expensive for a feature that doesn’t seem like a significant upgrade, in the future, MagSafe compatibility may not come with such a hefty price increase.
